Gigue for Woodwinds and Piano is one of several attempts by Paul Kim to bridge classical and contemporary musical styles. It is a one-movement work that blends elements of jazz, rock, classical, and Celtic music. Though non-programmatic, the work is idealistic in nature, promoting a general enthusiasm for life even when such enthusiasm may sometimes be difficult to sustain.
